    Sample answer 1

I'd like to talk about my friend, Linh. We've known each other since our university days, about eight years now. We met in our English literature class, and we quickly bonded over our shared love for books and coffee.

What makes Linh so energetic is her incredible zest for life. She's always on the go, juggling a full-time job as a graphic designer, taking evening classes in photography, and still managing to find time for her friends and family. She's the kind of person who's always up for trying new things, whether it's hiking in the mountains, exploring a new city, or just trying a new recipe. Even when things get tough, she always maintains a positive attitude and finds a way to bounce back. For example, last year, she was working on a particularly demanding project, and despite the long hours and tight deadlines, she never complained. Instead, she motivated her team and kept everyone's spirits up.

I really admire Linh's energy and enthusiasm. She's a true inspiration to me, and she reminds me to make the most of every day. Spending time with her always leaves me feeling energized and motivated. She has this infectious positive energy that just rubs off on everyone around her. I feel very lucky to have her as a friend.

    • zest for life: niềm đam mê sống
    • juggling: điều phối (nhiều công việc, trách nhiệm)
    • up for trying new things: sẵn sàng thử những điều mới
    • bounce back: phục hồi
    • demanding project: dự án đòi hỏi khắt khe
    • tight deadlines: hạn chót gấp rút
    • motivated: có động lực
    • infectious positive energy: năng lượng tích cực lây lan
    • rubs off on: ảnh hưởng đến

    Sample answer 2

To be honest, the first person who comes to my mind when I think of an energetic individual is my close friend, Minh. I’ve known Minh for a few years now, and we met through university. We were in the same class for a couple of semesters, and our friendship just grew from there.

As far as I’m concerned, what sets Minh apart is the sheer amount of energy he has. First of all, he’s always on the go – whether it’s early in the morning or late at night. He’s someone who gets up at the crack of dawn to go jogging, and then he’s busy all day with classes, work, and volunteering. What’s more, he never seems to get tired. No matter how much he has on his plate, he stays active and fully engaged in everything he does. To share one example with you, there’s this one time when we had a group project, and Minh was the leader. Despite the pressure of meeting deadlines and managing the team, he still found time to motivate everyone. Not only did he encourage us to stay focused, but he also organized fun activities to keep the team’s spirits high. That’s the thing about Minh – his energy is contagious, and it brings out the best in people around him.

To my way of thinking, I feel that Minh’s energy is fueled by his passion for what he does. Whether it’s his studies, his hobbies, or his social life, he invests his full attention and effort, which is why he never seems to run out of steam. And come to think of it, I really admire his attitude. His boundless energy pushes me to be more active and stay on top of my commitments. I’d go as far as to say that he’s a role model in many ways. His positivity and enthusiasm definitely have a great impact on me, and I always feel motivated whenever I spend time with him.

    • sets apart: làm cho khác biệt
    • on the go: luôn bận rộn
    • at the crack of dawn: lúc tảng sáng
    • on his plate: có nhiều việc phải làm
    • fully engaged: hoàn toàn tham gia
    • fueled by: được thúc đẩy bởi
    • run out of steam: hết năng lượng
    • boundless energy: năng lượng dồi dào
    • stay on top of: kiểm soát tốt
    • role model: hình mẫu lý tưởng
    • positivity and enthusiasm: thái độ tích cực và nhiệt huyết

    3. IELTS Speaking part 3

Question 1: Do you think there was more physical labour in the past than there is now?

    Sample answer 1:

As far as I can tell, physical labour was far more common in the past than it is today. First of all, many jobs in industries like agriculture, construction, and manufacturing relied entirely on human effort, whereas now, automation and machinery have taken over a lot of that workload. Another thing is that modern jobs tend to be more knowledge-based, meaning fewer people have to do strenuous physical work on a daily basis. That said, some jobs still require manual labour, especially in developing countries where technology is less advanced.

    • rely on: phụ thuộc vào
    • strenuous physical work: công việc lao động thể chất nặng nhọc
    • knowledge-based jobs: công việc dựa trên kiến thức
    • manual labour: lao động chân tay

    Sample answer 2:

The way I see it, physical labour hasn’t necessarily decreased—it has just changed in nature. More specifically, while traditional farming or factory work may have declined, jobs in areas like delivery services, warehouse operations, and fitness training have grown significantly. To name one example, with the rise of online shopping, more workers are needed in logistics to handle packaging and transportation. Mind you, the level of physical strain may be lower than in the past, thanks to better tools and equipment.

    • changed in nature: thay đổi về bản chất
    • declined: suy giảm
    • logistics: công tác hậu cần
    • physical strain: căng thẳng thể chất
    • better tools and equipment: công cụ và trang thiết bị tốt hơn

Question 2: Do you think you are an energetic person?

      Sample answer 1:

My take on this is that I have a decent amount of energy, but it depends on the situation. For starters, when I’m doing something I love, like playing sports or working on a passion project, I can keep going for hours without feeling tired. More importantly, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which helps me stay active throughout the day. That said, I do have moments when I feel drained, especially after a long workday or a stressful situation. I do believe that energy levels can be improved through exercise and a healthy diet, so it’s something I try to work on.

      Sample answer 2:

To be honest, I wouldn’t call myself a particularly energetic person. For one thing, I tend to prefer quiet, low-energy activities like reading or watching movies rather than engaging in physically demanding tasks. More specifically, I find that I function best in the morning, but as the day goes on, my energy levelsdrop quite a bit. That being said, I do believe that energy levels can be improved through exercise and a healthy diet, so it’s something I try to work on.

      • decent amount of energy: một lượng năng lượng kha khá
      • passion project: dự án đam mê
      • maintain a healthy lifestyle: duy trì lối sống lành mạnh
      • feel drained: cảm thấy kiệt sức
      • stressful situation: tình huống căng thẳng
      • energy levels: mức độ năng lượng
      • physically demanding tasks: công việc đòi hỏi thể lực
      • function best: hoạt động tốt nhất
      • drop quite a bit: giảm khá nhiều

Question 3: Do you think machines could replace human workers in the future?

      Sample answer 1:

The way I see it, machines will definitely take over a lot of jobs in the future, especially repetitive tasks or physically demanding ones. To start with, industries like manufacturing and transportation are already relying on robots and automation to boost efficiency. More specifically, self-driving trucks and robotic assembly lines are becoming more common. That said, certain jobs that require creativity, emotional intelligence, or human judgment will likely remain in human hands for a long time.

      Sample answer 2:

As far as I’m concerned, while automation will continue to advance, there will always be a need for human workers. One reason is that machines, no matter how advanced, lack the ability to truly understand emotions, solve complex problems creatively, or build deep relationships. On top of that, some jobs, like nursing or teaching, require a human touch that technology simply can’t replicate. Mind you, workers will need to continuously update their skills to stay relevant in an increasingly automated world.

      • take over: chiếm lấy
      • repetitive tasks: công việc lặp đi lặp lại
      • physically demanding: đòi hỏi thể lực
      • relying on: dựa vào
      • boost efficiency: nâng cao hiệu quả
      • self-driving trucks: xe tải tự lái
      • robotic assembly lines: dây chuyền lắp ráp robot
      • creativity: sự sáng tạo
      • emotional intelligence: trí tuệ cảm xúc
      • human judgment: phán đoán của con người
      • human touch: sự chăm sóc, cảm giác con người
      • replicate: sao chép
      • update their skills: cập nhật kỹ năng
      • stay relevant: duy trì sự liên quan

Question 4: Can physical workers receive higher salaries in the future?

      Sample answer 1:

To my way of thinking, physical workers might see higher salaries in the future due to the increasing demand for skilled labour. For starters, jobs in construction, logistics, and maintenance are essential, and as fewer people are willing to do them, wages might rise to attract workers. More importantly, as economies grow, governments and businesses may recognize the need to improve wages for those who perform strenuous labour. That said, this will likely vary depending on the country and industry.

      Sample answer 2:

What I reckon is that the salaries of physical workers will only increase if their skills become more specialized. More specifically, routine manual jobs might not see significant pay raises, but highly skilled trades like welding, plumbing, or electrical work could become more lucrative. To name one example, in some countries, skilled construction workers already earn more than office employees. With that being said, automation could also reduce demand for certain manual jobs, keeping wages low.

      • increasing demand: nhu cầu ngày càng tăng
      • skilled labour: lao động có tay nghề
      • wages: tiền lương
      • attract workers: thu hút người lao động
      • economies grow: nền kinh tế phát triển
      • strenuous labour: công việc nặng nhọc
      • vary depending on: thay đổi tùy theo
      • specialized: chuyên môn hóa
      • routine manual jobs: công việc thủ công thường xuyên
      • pay raises: tăng lương
      • highly skilled trades: nghề đòi hỏi tay nghề cao
      • lucrative: mang lại nhiều lợi nhuận
      • skilled construction workers: công nhân xây dựng có tay nghề
      • automation: tự động hóa
      • reduce demand: giảm nhu cầu
      • keeping wages low: giữ mức lương thấp

Question 5: What’s the difference between the payment for physical work and that for mental work?

      Sample answer 1:

From my perspective, mental work is generally paid more than physical work because it often requires higher education and specialized skills. For example, doctors, engineers, and financial analysts typically earn more than factory workers or delivery personnel. Another thing is that mental work tends to have more career growth opportunities, leading to better salaries over time. That said, certain physical jobs, like professional sports or skilled trades, can be very well-paid.

      Sample answer 2:

The way I see it, the key difference is not just the salary but also the long-term earning potential. More specifically, mental work usually offers steady income growth and job security, while physical work can be more unpredictable, especially if it’s seasonal or highly competitive. That said, some physically demanding jobs, such as stunt performers or deep-sea divers, can command extremely high wagesdue to their risks.

      • mental work: công việc trí óc
      • physical work: công việc tay chân
      • higher education: giáo dục bậc cao
      • specialized skills: kỹ năng chuyên môn
      • typically earn: thường kiếm được
      • career growth opportunities: cơ hội phát triển nghề nghiệp
      • well-paid: được trả lương cao
      • long-term earning potential: tiềm năng thu nhập dài hạn
      • steady income growth: sự tăng trưởng thu nhập ổn định
      • job security: sự ổn định công việc
      • unpredictable: không thể dự đoán
      • seasonal: theo mùa
      • highly competitive: cạnh tranh cao
      • physically demanding jobs: công việc đòi hỏi sức lực
      • stunt performers: người biểu diễn nhào lộn
      • deep-sea divers: thợ lặn biển sâu
      • command extremely high wages: nhận được mức lương rất cao
      • due to their risks: do những rủi ro của họ

Question 6: What kinds of jobs need a lot of physical work?

      Sample answer 1:

As far as I can tell, jobs in construction, agriculture, and transportation require a great deal of physical effort. For starters, construction workers have to lift heavy materials, operate machinery, and endure long hours on their feet. On top of that, agricultural workers often engage in physically exhausting tasks like planting and harvesting crops. Mind you, modern technology has made some of these jobs less strenuous than they used to be.

      Sample answer 2:

To name one example, warehouse jobs require a lot of physical work, as workers have to move large packages and operate heavy machinery. More specifically, delivery drivers, factory workers, and firefighters also engage in demanding physical tasks daily. That said, some of these roles are becoming easier thanks to automation and better equipment.

      • physical effort: nỗ lực thể chất
      • construction workers: công nhân xây dựng
      • lift heavy materials: nâng vật liệu nặng
      • operate machinery: vận hành máy móc
      • endure long hours: chịu đựng giờ làm việc dài
      • agricultural workers: công nhân nông nghiệp
      • physically exhausting tasks: công việc tốn sức
      • planting and harvesting crops: trồng và thu hoạch cây trồng
      • modern technology: công nghệ hiện đại
      • less strenuous: ít tốn sức hơn
      • warehouse jobs: công việc ở kho
      • move large packages: di chuyển gói hàng lớn
      • demanding physical tasks: công việc đòi hỏi thể chất
      • delivery drivers: tài xế giao hàng
      • factory workers: công nhân nhà máy
      • firefighters: lính cứu hỏa
      • automation: tự động hóa
      • better equipment: thiết bị tốt hơn

Question 7: What kinds of jobs require a lot of energy?

      Sample answer 1:

To my way of thinking, jobs that involve constant movement and high levels of interaction require a lot of energy. For example, teachers need to be mentally and physically active throughout the day, engaging with students and delivering lessons. Another thing is that medical professionals, like nurses and paramedics, work long shifts and need to be alert at all times. That said, energy levels can also depend on personal motivation and physical fitness.

      Sample answer 2:

What I reckon is that hospitality and emergency services require enormous amounts of energy. More specifically, chefs and waiters in busy restaurants are on their feet for hours, constantly moving and multitasking. On top of that, firefighters and rescue workers need not only physical strength but also the stamina to handle extreme situations. Mind you, high-energy jobs can be incredibly rewarding for those who thrive in dynamic environments.

      • constant movement: di chuyển liên tục

      • high levels of interaction: mức độ tương tác cao

      • mentally and physically active: năng động về tinh thần và thể chất

      • engaging with students: tương tác với học sinh

      • delivering lessons: giảng bài

      • medical professionals: chuyên gia y tế

      • paramedics: nhân viên y tế cấp cứu

      • be alert at all times: luôn cảnh giác

      • personal motivation: động lực cá nhân

      • physical fitness: thể lực

      • hospitality: ngành dịch vụ nhà hàng – khách sạn

      • emergency services: dịch vụ khẩn cấp

      • chefs and waiters: đầu bếp và nhân viên phục vụ

      • on their feet for hours: đứng hàng giờ liền

      • multitasking: làm nhiều việc cùng lúc

      • firefighters and rescue workers: lính cứu hỏa và nhân viên cứu hộ

      • physical strength: sức mạnh thể chất

      • stamina: sức bền

      • handle extreme situations: xử lý các tình huống khắc nghiệt

      • rewarding: đáng giá, bổ ích

      • thrive in dynamic environments: phát triển trong môi trường năng động

Question 8: Do you think manual work will all be done by machines in the future?

      Sample answer 1:
As far as I can tell, while machines will replace a lot of manual work, some tasks will always require human involvement. To name one example, construction sites may use robotic tools, but human workers will still be needed for supervision and problem-solving. That said, we may see a shift where humans focus more on managing technology rather than performing the physical labour itself.

      Sample answer 2:
The way I see it, full automation of manual work is unlikely, at least in the near future. More importantly, some jobs, like carpentry or artisanal work, require creativity and adaptability that machines struggle with. Mind you, repetitive and dangerous tasks will almost certainly be handed over to robots to improve efficiency and safety.

      • manual work: công việc chân tay

      • human involvement: sự tham gia của con người

      • robotic tools: công cụ robot

      • supervision: giám sát

      • problem-solving: giải quyết vấn đề

      • a shift: sự thay đổi

      • managing technology: quản lý công nghệ

      • physical labour: lao động chân tay

      • full automation: tự động hóa hoàn toàn

      • carpentry: nghề mộc

      • artisanal work: công việc thủ công

      • creativity and adaptability: sự sáng tạo và khả năng thích ứng

      • struggle with: gặp khó khăn với

      • repetitive tasks: công việc lặp đi lặp lại

      • dangerous tasks: công việc nguy hiểm

      • handed over to robots: giao cho robot

      • efficiency and safety: hiệu suất và an toàn

Question 9: Do you think manual workers will earn more in the future?

      Sample answer 1:

To my way of thinking, manual workers will only earn more if their skills become harder to find. First of all, as younger generations move away from physically demanding jobs, wages might rise to attract workers. More importantly, governments and unions might push for better wages and benefits for blue-collar workers. That said, competition with machines could limit salary growth.

      Sample answer 2:

What I reckon is that only highly specialized manual workers will see major salary increases. More specifically, jobs that require advanced skills, like underwater welding or aerospace engineering, will always command high salaries. With that being said, general manual labour might remain low-paid unless there’s a shortage of workers.
