    3. Sample Answer 1

One useful skill that I learned from an older person is how to grow vegetables. I learned this from my grandfather, who has been passionate about gardening for as long as I can remember.

When I was a child, I used to spend my summer holidays at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. My grandfather had a small vegetable garden, and he taught me how to plant seeds, water the plants properly, and remove weeds. He also explained the importance of sunlight, soil quality, and natural fertilizers. At first, I wasn’t very interested, but when I saw the vegetables growing day by day, I started to enjoy the process.

I think this skill is really useful because it helps me appreciate nature and understand where our food comes from. Nowadays, many people buy vegetables from supermarkets without thinking about how they are grown. Learning this skill has made me more aware of healthy eating and sustainable living. Although I don’t have a garden of my own, I still enjoy growing small herbs at home, and every time I do, I remember my grandfather’s patience and wisdom.

    4. Sample Answer 2

One useful skill that I learned from an older person is cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes. I picked up this skill from my grandmother, who is an excellent cook and knows how to make all kinds of family recipes.

I started learning from her when I was around ten years old. At first, I would just watch her prepare meals, but over time, she let me help with small tasks like washing vegetables or stirring the soup. She taught me how to balance flavors in Vietnamese cuisine, such as adjusting the right amount of fish sauce, sugar, and lime juice. She also showed me the importance of patience in cooking, especially when making slow-cooked dishes like phở or braised pork.

I feel that this skill is incredibly valuable. Not only does it help me take care of myself when living away from home, but it also gives me a sense of connection to my family’s traditions. Every time I cook a dish that my grandmother taught me, I feel a sense of pride and nostalgia. I believe that cooking is not just a practical skill but also a way to preserve culture and bring people together.

    5. Sample Answer 3

A useful skill I learned from an older person is how to repair a bicycle. This is something that my father taught me when I was a teenager.

When I was in high school, I used to ride my bicycle to school every day. One day, my tire went flat, and I had no idea how to fix it. My dad then showed me step by step how to remove the wheel, patch up the tube, and pump air back into it. He also taught me how to oil the chain and check the brakes regularly. At first, I thought it was quite complicated, but after practicing a few times, I got the hang of it.

I think this is a really practical skill because it allows me to solve small problems on my own without relying on others. It has also made me more independent and confident when dealing with unexpected situations. Even though I don’t ride a bicycle as often as before, I still appreciate what my father taught me, and I believe that knowing how to fix things is always useful in life.
