In today's highly competitive world, many parents are putting increasing pressure on their children to excel academically and in extracurricular activities. This phenomenon has a number of underlying causes, and it puts detrimental impacts on children’s development.

One of the primary reasons for heightened parental pressure is the perception that children need to achieve exceptional results in order to gain admission to top universities and secure lucrative careers in the future. With university spots and job opportunities becoming more scarce, parents feel compelled to push their children to the limit in the hopes of giving them an edge over their peers. Additionally, some parents may feel that their own status and social standing is tied to their children's success. As a consequence, a number of parents not only force their children to dedicate themselves to their studies but also forbid their children to pursue their dream career, studying and working in the field that they do not like, in hope that their children will get a well-paid job.

While the motives behind parental pressure are understandable, the impact on children's well-being can be quite negative. Excessive demands for high performance can lead to significant stress, anxiety, and even depression in young people. The constant pressure to excel can diminish children's innate curiosity and passion for learning, replacing it with a sense of dread and resentment towards academics. Another detrimental impact is that some children might not gain success as they and their parents want. This is because they are not allowed to pursue their dream jobs or the ones they have talent for, which would lead to lower pay in their job.

In conclusion, the reasons behind heightened parental pressure on children are complex, stemming from a competitive job market, cultural values, and parental anxieties. This is a negative development as it has significant consequences on children's mental health and motivation.
