Chữa đề tham khảo IELTS Writing task 2: In the past, people stored knowledge in books. Nowadays people store knowledge on the internet. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
It is a trend that knowledge is stored online rather than in traditional hardcopies. While this approach offers certain advantages, the drawbacks are considerably more significant.
Admittedly, the accessibility of online knowledge sources could bring some certain advantages. One of them is that people have immediate access to a vast array of information at little to no cost, a stark contrast to the often expensive and time-consuming acquisition of printed materials. This accessibility is particularly advantageous for students from underprivileged regions, who may lack the financial means to purchase physical books. Additionally, the versatility of online platforms allows information to be presented in various formats, including texts, videos, and audio recordings. Scientific evidence supports the notion that diverse multimedia formats facilitate accelerated learning, catering to different learning preferences and styles.
However, despite the aforementioned advantages, the disadvantages are far more significant. A major problem is that a large number of online materials are unreliable. Unlike traditional publications subjected to rigorous editorial oversight, online content lacks such scrutiny and can be authored by those who lack expertise or credibility in the subject matter. As a result, false information proliferates, undermining the integrity of online information sources. Another problem is that copyright infringements are becoming increasingly common these days. Many authors and publishers find their works unlawfully distributed online, depriving them of rightful compensation and discouraging future creative endeavors. This not only undermines the economic sustainability of content creation but also erodes the ethical principles of intellectual property rights.
In conclusion, while I acknowledge that online knowledge storage could have some benefits relating to the convenience and accessibility, drawbacks concerning the prevalence of unreliable information and copyright violations are far more significant.
