    3. Sample Answer 1

To be honest, I’m not really interested in competitions, so I’ve never thought much about participating in one. However, if I had to choose, I might consider taking part in a small-scale trivia quiz or a friendly board game competition.

Such events are usually held in coffee shops or community centers, and they don’t involve intense pressure or strict rules. They are more about having fun and testing general knowledge rather than proving one’s superiority. If there were a casual competition like that in my city, I might give it a try, just for the experience.

That being said, I still don’t actively seek out contests because I don’t enjoy the competitive atmosphere. I prefer doing things at my own pace rather than feeling the need to outperform others. However, if the event focused on learning or simply having a good time, I might be open to the idea.

    4. Sample Answer 2

One competition that I would love to participate in is an English public speaking contest. This type of contest challenges participants to deliver a speech on a given topic within a limited time, demonstrating their language proficiency, confidence, and persuasive skills.

This competition is usually organized by my university’s English club and takes place in the main auditorium. It attracts many students who want to improve their public speaking skills and gain more confidence when using English in real-life situations.

The contest is held annually, and I plan to join it next semester. Each round requires contestants to prepare a speech and answer questions from the judges.

I really want to participate because I believe it will be a great opportunity to enhance my communication skills and overcome my fear of speaking in front of a large audience. Besides, it would be an exciting way to challenge myself and see how well I can perform under pressure. Winning would be amazing, but even if I don’t, I’m sure the experience will be incredibly valuable.

    5. Sample Answer 3

A competition that I have always wanted to take part in is a marathon race. I have been passionate about running for a long time, and joining a marathon would be an incredible challenge for me.

One of the most famous marathon events in Vietnam is the Hanoi International Marathon, which is held in the capital city. The race covers a scenic route through famous landmarks such as Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter.

This event takes place every year in November, attracting thousands of participants from different countries. There are different categories, ranging from 5 kilometers to a full 42-kilometer marathon, so both beginners and professional runners can join.

I would love to participate because running a marathon requires discipline, endurance, and strong determination. Completing the race, even if I don’t finish among the top runners, would give me a huge sense of accomplishment. Moreover, the event promotes a healthy lifestyle and allows me to meet like-minded people who share the same passion for running.

    IELTS Speaking part 3

    1. Do you think the ability to compete is natural or learned?

    Sample Answer 1:

I believe the ability to compete is largely learned rather than natural. From a young age, children are exposed to competitive environments, such as sports or academic rankings, which teach them how to strive for success. For example, schools often encourage students to participate in competitions, which helps them develop skills like resilience and strategic thinking. Moreover, cultural and societal norms play a significant role in shaping one’s competitive nature. Therefore, I think competition is a skill that is nurtured over time.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Competitive environments: Môi trường cạnh tranh.

    • Strive for success: Phấn đấu để thành công.

    • Resilience: Khả năng phục hồi.

    • Strategic thinking: Tư duy chiến lược.

    • Nurtured over time: Được nuôi dưỡng theo thời gian.

    Sample Answer 2:

In my opinion, the ability to compete is a mix of both natural instincts and learned behaviors. On one hand, humans have an innate drive to survive and excel, which can be seen in early childhood when kids naturally compete for attention or resources. On the other hand, experiences and upbringing refine this instinct. For instance, someone raised in a highly competitive family or culture might develop stronger competitive traits than others. So, I think it’s a combination of nature and nurture.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Innate drive: Bản năng tự nhiên.

    • Excel: Vượt trội.

    • Refine this instinct: Trau dồi bản năng này.

    • Competitive traits: Đặc điểm cạnh tranh.

    • Nature and nurture: Bẩm sinh và nuôi dưỡng.

    2. What kinds of people like to take part in competitions?

    Sample Answer 1:

I think people who are ambitious and goal-oriented are more likely to enjoy competitions. For example, athletes, entrepreneurs, and high-achieving students often thrive in competitive environments because they are motivated by challenges and the desire to succeed. Additionally, individuals who are confident in their abilities and enjoy pushing their limits tend to seek out competitions. These people see competitions as opportunities for growth and self-improvement.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Ambitious and goal-oriented: Tham vọng và có mục tiêu.

    • Thrive in competitive environments: Phát triển mạnh trong môi trường cạnh tranh.

    • Motivated by challenges: Được thúc đẩy bởi thử thách.

    • Pushing their limits: Vượt qua giới hạn của bản thân.

    • Opportunities for growth: Cơ hội để phát triển.

    Sample Answer 2:

People who are naturally competitive and enjoy social interaction often like to participate in competitions. For instance, extroverts might find competitions exciting because they enjoy being in the spotlight and interacting with others. Moreover, individuals who are passionate about a particular field, such as music or gaming, often join competitions to showcase their skills and connect with like-minded people. So, I think personality and interests play a big role in determining who enjoys competitions.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Naturally competitive: Cạnh tranh một cách tự nhiên.

    • Social interaction: Tương tác xã hội.

    • In the spotlight: Trong ánh đèn sân khấu.

    3. Do you think it is necessary to encourage people to compete with one another in companies?

    Sample Answer 1:

Yes, I believe encouraging competition in companies can be beneficial. For example, healthy competition among employees can boost productivity and innovation, as people strive to outperform their peers. Additionally, it can help identify top performers and reward them accordingly, which can motivate others to improve. However, it’s important to ensure that the competition remains fair and doesn’t create a toxic work environment. Otherwise, it could lead to stress and conflicts among employees.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Healthy competition: Cạnh tranh lành mạnh.

    • Boost productivity and innovation: Tăng năng suất và đổi mới.

    • Outperform their peers: Vượt trội hơn đồng nghiệp.

    • Identify top performers: Xác định những người làm việc xuất sắc.

    • Toxic work environment: Môi trường làm việc độc hại.

    Sample Answer 2:

While competition can have its benefits, I don’t think it’s always necessary to encourage it in companies. For instance, in roles that require teamwork and collaboration, excessive competition might hinder cooperation and create a hostile atmosphere. Instead, companies should focus on fostering a supportive environment where employees work together towards common goals. This approach can lead to better job satisfaction and long-term success for the organization.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Teamwork and collaboration: Làm việc nhóm và hợp tác.

    4. What kinds of industries need competition? Why?

    Sample Answer 1:

Industries that benefit from innovation and efficiency, such as technology and healthcare, need competition. For example, in the tech industry, competition drives companies to develop cutting-edge products and improve their services to attract customers. Similarly, in healthcare, competition can lead to better treatments and more affordable options for patients. Without competition, these industries might stagnate, and consumers would have fewer choices.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Innovation and efficiency: Đổi mới và hiệu quả.

    • Cutting-edge products: Sản phẩm tiên tiến.

    • Attract customers: Thu hút khách hàng.

    • Stagnate: Trì trệ.

    • Fewer choices: Ít lựa chọn hơn.

    Sample Answer 2:

Industries like retail and entertainment also thrive on competition. For instance, in retail, competition encourages businesses to offer better prices, higher quality products, and improved customer service to stand out in the market. In the entertainment industry, competition pushes creators to produce more engaging and original content to capture audiences. Therefore, competition is essential in these sectors to keep them dynamic and consumer-focused.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • Thrive on competition: Phát triển nhờ cạnh tranh.

    • Stand out in the market: Nổi bật trên thị trường.

    • Engaging and original content: Nội dung hấp dẫn và độc đáo.

    • Capture audiences: Thu hút khán giả.

    • Consumer-focused: Tập trung vào người tiêu dùng.

    5. Why are competition shows popular?

    Sample Answer 1:
As far as I can see, competition shows are so popular because they offer thrill and excitement. People enjoy watching contestants go head-to-head in intense challenges, whether it’s singing, cooking, or even general knowledge quizzes. Besides, these shows create suspense and drama, which keeps viewers hooked.

    Sample Answer 2:
To my way of thinking, these programs attract large audiences because they allow people to live vicariously through the contestants. Viewers can imagine themselves in the competitors’ shoes, experiencing their victories and setbacks. Also, many shows encourage audience participation, like voting for winners, which makes them even more engaging.

Từ vựng và cụm từ hữu ích:

    • thrill and excitement /θrɪl ænd ɪkˈsaɪtmənt/: sự hồi hộp và phấn khích
    • suspense and drama /səˈspɛns ænd ˈdrɑːmə/: sự hồi hộp và kịch tính

    6. What are the contests commonly seen on TV programs?

    Sample Answer 1:
As far as I’m concerned, the most common types of contests are talent-based competitions like singing, dancing, or cooking shows. Programs such as The Voice or MasterChef attract millions of viewers because they showcase extraordinary skills and creativity.

    Sample Answer 2:
What I reckon is that game shows and quiz competitions are also widely seen on television. These include trivia-based shows, where contestants answer difficult questions to win prizes, or physical endurance challenges, like obstacle courses that test participants’ strength and agility.
