Dạng bài Note/Form completion yêu cầu bạn điền đáp án đúng vào chỗ trống để hoàn thành một đoạn tóm tắt/biểu mẫu cho trước. Đáp án đúng có thể được thể hiện dưới dạng chữ cái và/hoặc số, vì vậy bạn cần đọc kỹ đề bài. Dạng Note Completion chủ yếu có trong Part 2 và Part 4 của bài thi IELTS Listening, trong khi dạng Form completion thường được đưa vào Part 1.
Đề bài có dạng một đoạn tóm tắt cho một bài giảng/đoạn hội thoại, có một tiêu đề lớn và nhiều để mục nhỏ bên dưới.
Đề bài có dạng một biểu mẫu tổng hợp các thông tin quan trọng, thường là một biểu mẫu đăng ký ghi lại thông tin cá nhân.

Ở bước này, việc của bạn là lắng nghe các thông tin liên quan tới từ/cụm từ khóa và tìm các gợi ý trả lời.

Ở đây, khi nghe thấy Quick response, ta dễ dàng đoàn được đây là phần có liên quan tới nội dung cần nghe. Cụm từ khóa company's response must be swift được diễn đạt lại bằng “the company must deal with them rapidly”, nên câu tiếp theo. “This will ensure the perception of stability is maintained” là câu gợi ý trả lời.
Trong bước này, chúng ta cần lựa chọn thông tin phù hợp từ nội dung nghe được để điền vào chỗ trống. Sau khi điền, hãy kiểm tra lại để chắc chắn rằng đáp án thỏa mãn yêu cầu và không mắc các lỗi ngữ pháp nhé.
Ví dụ:
Câu 'This will ensure the perception of stability is maintained' cho ta biết lý do công ty này phải tim đổi sách khẩn cấp là để đảm bảo ổn định tình hình. Vì vậy từ cần điền là 'stability' (sự ổn định).
