Present continuous – Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Chúng ta cùng tìm hiểu chủ điểm ngữ pháp Tiếng Anh quen thuộc - Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn nhé. Đây cũng là phần ngữ pháp IELTS được thường xuyên sử dụng đó. 

Cách sử dụng thì Hiện tại tiếp diễn

Để hiểu về hiện tại tiếp diễn thì chúng ta hãy cùng tìm hiểu ví dụ sau:

Sarah is in her car. She is on her way to work. She’s driving to work. (= She is driving …)

Điều này có nghĩa là Sarah đang lái xe ở thời điểm nói, và hành động này vẫn chưa kết thúc.

=> Chúng ta sử dụng công Ving đi sau động từ to be để diễn tả hiện tại tiếp diễn.

Công thức: am/is/are + -ing được dùng để diễn tả thì Hiện tại tiếp diễn như sau:

Bạn có thể hiểu đơn giản về thì hiện tại tiếp diễn qua các ví dụ tiếp theo:

I am doing something = I started doing it and I haven’t finished; I’m in the middle of doing it.

• Please don’t make so much noise. I’m trying to work. (not I try)
• ‘Where’s Mark?’ ‘He’s having a shower.’ (not He has a shower)
• Let’s go out now. It isn’t raining any more. (not It doesn’t rain)
• How’s your new job? Are you enjoying it?
• What’s all that noise? What’s going on? or What’s happening?

Trong một số trường hợp, thì hiện tại tiếp diễn có thể mô tả hành động không diễn ra ở thời điểm đang nói. Ví dụ:

• Kate wants to work in Italy, so she’s learning Italian. (Kate muốn làm việc ở Ý nên cô ấy đang học tiếng ý)
  Trong trường hợp này, có thể cô ấy đang không học tiếng Ý ở thời điểm nói.
• Steve is talking to a friend on the phone. He says: “I’m reading a really good book at the moment. It’s about a man who ..." (Steve đang nói chuyện qua điện thoại với một người bạn. Anh ấy nói: "Tớ đang đọc một cuốn sách rất hay. Nó nói về một người đàn ông mà...."

Trong trường hợp này, Steve nói “I’m reading…” nhưng anh ấy không đang đọc 1 cuốn sách ở thời điểm gọi điện thoại. Ý của Steve là anh ấy đã bắt đầu đọc cuốn sách nhưng chưa kết thúc, và vào lúc nói chuyện điện thoại thì anh ấy đang đọc dở cuốn sách.

Dấu hiệu nhận biết Hiện tại tiếp diễn

Bạn có thế sử dụng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn với các từ như today/this week/this year… (một khoảng thời gian gần với hiện tại). Ví dụ:

• A: You’re working hard today. (not You work hard today)
  B: Yes,I have a lot to do.
• The company I work for isn’t doing so well this year.

Chúng ta cũng sử dụng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn khi nói về một thay đổi đã bắt đầu diễn ra. Và chúng ta thường sử dụng các động từ như sau:

getting, becoming changing, improving
starting, beginning increasing, rising, falling, growing

Ví dụ:

• Is your English getting better? (Tiếng Anh của bạn đang khá hơn đúng chứ?) mà không dùng Does your English get better?
• The population of the world is increasing very fast. (Dân số thế giới đang tăng lên một cách nhanh chóng)  
• At first I didn’t like my job, but I’m starting to enjoy it now. (Ban đầu tôi không thích công việc của mình nhưng bây giờ thì tôi đã bắt đầu thích nó.)
