A few months ago, I had an unfortunate experience with an online shopping order. I had purchased a new smartphone from a well-known e-commerce platform, and when the package arrived, I was dismayed to find that the phone's screen was cracked.

Immediately, I contacted the customer service department of the online store to register my complaint. I spoke to a customer service representative and explained the situation, providing all the necessary order details and images of the damaged phone as evidence.

I must commend the customer service representative for her understanding and empathy. She apologized for the inconvenience and assured me that they would resolve the issue promptly. Within a couple of days, the customer service team informed me that they would initiate a replacement for the damaged phone. They arranged for a pickup of the defective phone, and a new smartphone was dispatched to me. I was pleasantly surprised by their quick response and their willingness to address the problem efficiently. The new smartphone arrived in perfect condition, and I was delighted to see that it met all my expectations.

Their responsiveness and commitment to customer satisfaction left a positive impression on me. They acknowledged their mistake and took responsibility for it, which is crucial when dealing with customer complaints. Moreover, the replacement phone was delivered promptly, and the entire process was hassle-free. In the end, I felt valued as a customer, and my faith in the online store was restored. II. IELTS Speaking part 3 sample answers

    1. When are people more likely to make complaints?

Based on my personal observations, people are more likely to make complaints when they feel dissatisfied or encounter issues that directly affect their experiences. For instance, if they receive poor customer service, encounter product defects, or face delays in services, they are more inclined to voice their concerns and complaints.

    2. What do people often complain about?

From my perspective, people often complain about a variety of issues, but some common complaints include poor customer service, product quality or defects, billing errors, delays in services, and lack of responsiveness from companies or authorities. Additionally, complaints may also arise from issues related to public services, transportation, or overall dissatisfaction with products or experiences.

    3. Which one is better when making a complaint, by talking or by writing?

In my opinion, the effectiveness of making a complaint can depend on the situation and personal preferences. Speaking directly to a person in authority, such as a manager or customer service representative, can lead to immediate responses and resolutions. It allows for real-time communication and a chance to express emotions and concerns. On the other hand, written complaints can be more formal and well-documented. They provide a record of the issue and can be shared with higher authorities if needed. Ultimately, the most suitable approach depends on the context and the desired outcome of the complaint.

    4. Who are more likely to make complaints, older people or younger people?

From my observations, both older and younger people may make complaints, but their reasons and approaches can differ. Older individuals may be more inclined to make complaints when they encounter issues that directly impact their well-being or long-standing beliefs. Younger people, on the other hand, may be more vocal in expressing their complaints, especially in areas that affect their daily lives, such as products, services, or social issues.

    5. How would you react if you received poor service at a restaurant?

If I received poor service at a restaurant, I would try to remain calm and composed. I believe that addressing the issue politely and directly with the restaurant staff or manager is the first step. Expressing my concerns and expectations for better service is important. I would appreciate the opportunity for the staff to rectify the situation. However, if the poor service persisted or was not adequately addressed, I might consider providing feedback through online reviews or contacting the management to share my experience.

    6. How do people often respond to poor customer service?

In response to poor customer service, people may react differently based on their personalities and cultural norms. Some individuals might express their dissatisfaction directly and assertively, seeking immediate resolution. Others may be more reserved and opt to share their feedback later through online reviews or customer surveys. In some cases, people might choose to avoid the establishment altogether and spread negative word-of-mouth. It's essential to handle complaints constructively and professionally to improve customer service and maintain a positive reputation.
