    IELTS Speaking part 2

    1. Đề bài

Describe a room you have been to in someone else's house

    You should say:

    • Whose room it is
    • When you went there
    • How you felt about it
    • And explain why you have been to that person’s room

    2. Sample 1

I’m going to talk about a room in a friend’s house that I visited recently. The room belongs to my friend, Minh, who I’ve known since primary school. I went to his house a couple of months ago for a study session.

Minh’s room is located on the second floor of his house. It’s a cozy, well-organized space with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The walls are painted a soft blue, and he has a large desk by the window where he does his homework. There’s also a comfortable bed, a couple of bookshelves filled with novels and textbooks, and a few posters of his favorite bands on the walls.

When I visited Minh’s room, I felt quite comfortable and at ease. It was clear that he had put a lot of thought into making his room a nice place to spend time. The room had a homely feel, and it was a great environment for studying.

I went to Minh’s room because we were working on a group project together. We needed a quiet place where we could focus without interruptions, and his room was perfect for that. Additionally, it was a good opportunity for me to see how he had set up his study space, which gave me some ideas for improving my own room. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, and I appreciated how welcoming and organized Minh’s room was.

    • cozy /ˈkəʊ.zi/: ấm cúng
    • well-organized /wel ˈɔːɡənaɪzd/: được sắp xếp gọn gàng

    3. Sample 2

I’m going to describe a room in someone else’s house that I visited a while ago. It was the living room in my cousin’s house. I went there about six months ago when my cousin invited me over for a family gathering.

To be honest, I didn’t really pay much attention to the specifics of the room. It was just a typical living room, with a sofa, a coffee table, and a TV. I think there were some family photos on the walls, but I didn’t really focus on the decor or the arrangement of the furniture.

I felt quite relaxed during my visit because it was a family gathering, and the atmosphere was friendly and casual. We just chatted and caught up, so I didn’t spend much time examining the room.

The main reason I went to my cousin’s living room was to join the family event. We were all there to spend time together and enjoy a meal. So, while I don’t remember many details about the room itself, I do remember enjoying the company and having a good time with my family.

    • pay attention to /peɪ əˈten.ʃən tu/: chú ý đến

    • catch up /kætʃ ʌp/: hàn huyên, trò chuyện

    IELTS Speaking part 3

    1. Will you go to someone else’s house during the spring festival? Why?

Yes, I definitely plan to visit someone else’s house during the Spring Festival. It's a significant tradition in Vietnam to spend time with family and friends during this festive period. Visiting others' homes is a way to strengthen relationships, share good wishes for the new year, and enjoy traditional foods together. It's also an opportunity to experience different family customs and celebrate in a more communal way. I think it’s important to keep these traditions alive because they help maintain a sense of connection and cultural heritage.

    • significant tradition /sɪɡˈnɪfɪkənt trəˈdɪʃn/: truyền thống quan trọng
    • festive period /ˈfɛstɪv ˈpɪəriəd/: khoảng thời gian lễ hội
    • strengthen relationships /ˈstrɛŋθən rɪˈleɪʃnʃɪps/: củng cố các mối quan hệ
    • share good wishes /ʃɛər ɡʊd ˈwɪʃɪz/: chia sẻ những lời chúc tốt đẹp
    • traditional foods /trəˈdɪʃənl fuːdz/: các món ăn truyền thống
    • family customs /ˈfæmɪli ˈkʌstəmz/: phong tục gia đình
    • cultural heritage /ˈkʌltʃərəl ˈhɛrɪtɪdʒ/: di sản văn hóa

    2. Why do people invite others to their house?

People invite others to their house for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is to build and strengthen relationships, whether they are family, friends, or colleagues. Inviting someone over is often a way to show hospitality and make people feel welcome and valued. Additionally, social gatherings at home can be a great way to celebrate special occasions, like birthdays or holidays, and to share good times and memories. For many, it’s also a chance to showcase their home and offer a warm and personal touch to their interactions.

    • strengthen relationships /ˈstrɛŋθən rɪˈleɪʃnʃɪps/: củng cố các mối quan hệ
    • show hospitality /ʃəʊ ˌhɒspɪˈtælɪti/: thể hiện lòng hiếu khách
    • make people feel welcome /meɪk ˈpiːpl fiːl ˈwɛlkəm/: làm cho mọi người cảm thấy được chào đón
    • personal touch /ˈpɜːsənl tʌtʃ/: sự cá nhân hóa

    3. Do young people or old people prefer to stay at home?

I think it depends on the individual’s lifestyle and preferences, but generally, young people might prefer going out more often, whether it’s to social events, travel, or simply exploring new places. They often have more energy and a desire to experience different things. On the other hand, older people might prefer staying at home, as it can be more comfortable and less physically demanding. They might also enjoy the tranquility and the familiarity of their own space. However, this can vary greatly depending on personal interests and circumstances.

    • lifestyle and preferences /ˈlaɪfstaɪl ənd ˈprɛfərənsɪz/: lối sống và sở thích
    • exploring new places /ɪkˈsplɔːrɪŋ njuː pleɪsɪz/: khám phá những nơi mới
    • physically demanding /ˈfɪzɪkli dɪˈmɑːndɪŋ/: đòi hỏi thể lực
    • tranquility /træŋˈkwɪlɪti/: sự yên bình
    • familiarity /fəˌmɪlˈjærɪti/: sự quen thuộc

    4. Do you think old people will be able to keep up with the pace of technology in 50 years?

It’s hard to say for certain, but I believe that keeping up with technology could be quite challenging for older people in the future. Technology evolves so rapidly that it can be difficult for anyone to stay current, especially if they are not as accustomed to new gadgets and software. However, I think there’s potential for older generations to adapt, particularly if there are more user-friendly technologies and better support systems in place. It’s also important to consider that there will always be a range of individual abilities and interests, so while some older people might embrace new technology, others might prefer to stick with what they know.

    • evolves rapidly /ɪˈvɒlvz ˈræpɪdli/: phát triển nhanh chóng
    • user-friendly technologies /ˈjuːzə ˈfrɛndli tɛkˈnɒləʤɪz/: công nghệ thân thiện với người dùng
    • support systems /səˈpɔːt ˈsɪstəmz/: hệ thống hỗ trợ
    • embrace new technology /ɪmˈbreɪs njuː tɛkˈnɒləʤi/: đón nhận công nghệ mới
