One person I know who loves to read is my best friend, Minh. We’ve known each other since high school, where we bonded over our shared love for books. Minh is someone who’s always got a book in hand, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, or even academic journals.

I first noticed Minh’s passion for reading when we were in grade 10. We had a project in literature class that required a lot of research, and while most of us were content with a few articles online, Minh went to the library and borrowed a stack of books. That’s when I realized that reading wasn’t just a hobby for him; it was something he truly enjoyed.

Minh reads a wide variety of genres. He enjoys classic literature, particularly novels by authors like Leo Tolstoy and Jane Austen. But he also has a keen interest in science fiction and fantasy. I remember him talking endlessly about the “Dune” series by Frank Herbert and how it opened his mind to new possibilities. Apart from fiction, Minh is also into self-help books and biographies. He’s always looking to improve himself, and he believes that reading is one of the best ways to gain new perspectives and knowledge.

I think the reason Minh likes to read so much is that it allows him to escape into different worlds and experience lives that are completely different from his own. Sample 2:

I met Lan when we were assigned to the same dorm room in our first year of university. From day one, I noticed how many books she had brought with her.

Lan enjoys reading a wide range of books. She loves fantasy and science fiction novels and loves to read about hair styling too, often staying up late to finish a captivating story or learn a new hair dressing technique. She also reads a lot of popular science books, especially those about psychology and neuroscience, which relate to her major. What surprised me was her interest in classical literature from around the world.

I think Lan reads a lot for several reasons. Firstly, it's her main form of entertainment. She prefers diving into a good book over watching TV or playing video games. Reading seems to truly excite her imagination. Secondly, I believe she uses books as a way to understand different perspectives and cultures. She once told me that reading lets her live many lives and experience things she might never encounter in real life. Lastly, I think reading helps her relieve stress. Whenever she feels overwhelmed with coursework, she turns to her books for comfort and escape.

Lan’s love for reading has influenced me positively. She's introduced me to many great books I might not have picked up otherwise. Her enthusiasm for discussing what she's read has made me appreciate literature more deeply.

Seeing how much joy and knowledge Lan gains from reading has inspired me to read more widely. It's shown me that reading can be both fun and intellectually stimulating, and also we can learn practical things too.
