Describe an enjoyable journey by public transport
You should say:
One enjoyable journey by public transport that I remember fondly was a trip I took with my friends to Ha Long Bay. We decided to travel there by bus, which was an adventure in itself.
We took a long-distance bus from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay. It was a group of five of us who went on this trip, all of whom are my close friends. We chose the bus because it was more affordable and allowed us to see the countryside along the way.
During the journey, we spent our time chatting, playing games, and enjoying the scenic views outside the window. The bus ride took around four hours, and the landscape changed from the bustling cityscape of Hanoi to lush green fields and rolling hills. We made a few stops at roadside markets where we tried some local snacks, which added to the fun of the trip.
I felt really excited and happy throughout the journey. It was my first time traveling to Ha Long Bay, and the bus ride was part of the whole experience. The atmosphere on the bus was light-hearted and full of laughter, which made the journey feel short despite its length. By the time we arrived at Ha Long Bay, we were all in high spirits, ready to explore and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Overall, the trip was a memorable and enjoyable experience. The bus journey was comfortable and gave us a chance to bond and relax before reaching our destination. It was a perfect start to a wonderful holiday, and it left me with a lot of great memories.
Although I’ve never actually had a journey by public transport, I’ve always imagined how enjoyable it could be. For instance, I’ve often thought about how fun it would be to take a train trip from Hanoi to Hue, which is known for its scenic route.
If I had the opportunity to take such a trip, I’d love to go with a group of friends. We could spend the journey talking, playing games, and enjoying the changing landscapes outside the window. I imagine the train ride would offer a comfortable and relaxing way to travel, with the added bonus of seeing beautiful countryside views and historical landmarks along the way.
During the journey, we’d likely make the most of the time by enjoying the local snacks available on the train and taking photos of the scenery. It would also be a great chance to relax and unwind before arriving at our destination.
Even though I haven’t experienced it myself, I think such a journey by public transport would be very enjoyable. It would allow us to experience the trip in a more leisurely and immersive way compared to traveling by car. I feel that it would be a great way to bond with friends and create lasting memories, making the journey itself a memorable part of the trip.
From my perspective, many people choose to travel by public transport because it’s often more affordable than driving a private vehicle. You don’t have to worry about fuel, parking fees, or maintenance costs, which can add up over time. Another reason could be convenience. For instance, in big cities where traffic jams are a common issue, taking the bus or metro might be faster than driving yourself. Also, some people prefer public transport because it’s more environmentally friendly, helping to reduce their carbon footprint. Personally, I choose public transport when I want to avoid the stress of driving in heavy traffic.
more affordable /mɔːr əˈfɔːrdəbl/: tiết kiệm hơn
private vehicle /ˈpraɪvət ˈviːhɪkl/: phương tiện cá nhân
fuel, parking fees, or maintenance costs /fjʊəl, ˈpɑːrkɪŋ fiːz, ɔːr ˈmeɪntənəns kɔːsts/: chi phí nhiên liệu, đỗ xe, hoặc bảo trì
traffic jams /ˈtræfɪk dʒæmz/: ùn tắc giao thông
bus or metro /bʌs ɔːr ˈmɛtroʊ/: xe buýt hoặc tàu điện ngầm
environmentally friendly /ɪnˌvaɪrənˈmɛntəli ˈfrɛndli/: thân thiện với môi trường
carbon footprint /ˈkɑːrbən ˈfʊtprɪnt/: lượng khí thải carbon
stress of driving /strɛs əv ˈdraɪvɪŋ/: căng thẳng khi lái xe
I think the main reason is speed. Traveling by plane allows people to cover long distances in a very short time, which is especially important for business trips or vacations. Moreover, with the growth of budget airlines, flying has become more accessible to many people. It’s often much faster and more convenient than spending days on a train or bus, especially for international travel. In my own experience, I prefer flying when I need to save time, even though the airport procedures can sometimes be a bit stressful.
cover long distances /ˈkʌvər lɔːŋ ˈdɪstənsɪz/: di chuyển khoảng cách xa
budget airlines /ˈbʌdʒɪt ˈɛrlaɪnz/: hàng không giá rẻ
accessible /əkˈsɛsəbl/: dễ tiếp cận
international travel /ˌɪntəˈnæʃənl ˈtrævəl/: du lịch quốc tế
airport procedures /ˈɛərpɔːrt prəˈsiːdʊrz/: thủ tục sân bay
Well, that’s a tough question. In my view, offering free public transport could definitely encourage more people to leave their cars at home, which might help reduce traffic congestion. However, I don’t think it’s a complete solution. There are still other factors, like the efficiency and coverage of the public transport system. If the buses or trains are not reliable, people might still prefer to use their cars. Also, free public transport might lead to overcrowding, which could create other problems. So while it’s a good idea, it would need to be combined with other measures like improving infrastructure.
reduce traffic congestion /rɪˈdjuːs ˈtræfɪk kənˈdʒɛstʃən/: giảm tắc nghẽn giao thông
efficiency and coverage /ɪˈfɪʃənsi ənd ˈkʌvərɪdʒ/: hiệu quả và phạm vi
reliable /rɪˈlaɪəbl/: đáng tin cậy
overcrowding /ˌəʊvəˈkraʊdɪŋ/: sự đông đúc
improving infrastructure /ɪmˈpruːvɪŋ ˈɪnfrəˌstrʌktʃər/: cải thiện cơ sở hạ tầng
There are a few, I suppose. One major disadvantage is the lack of flexibility. With public transport, you have to stick to a set schedule, and sometimes that can be inconvenient if you’re running late or need to go somewhere outside the route. Another issue is overcrowding, especially during rush hours. It can be uncomfortable to travel in packed buses or trains. Additionally, there are sometimes delays or cancellations, which can disrupt your plans. Personally, I’ve had times when I missed an important appointment because the bus didn’t arrive on time.
lack of flexibility /læɪk əv flɛkˈsɪbɪlɪti/: thiếu sự linh hoạt
stick to a set schedule /stɪk tə ə sɛt ˈskɛdjuːl/: phải theo lịch trình cố định
overcrowding /ˌəʊvəˈkraʊdɪŋ/: sự đông đúc
rush hours /rʌʃ ˈaʊəz/: giờ cao điểm
delays or cancellations /dɪˈleɪz ɔːr ˌkænsləˈeɪʃənz/: trì hoãn hoặc hủy chuyến
disrupt your plans /dɪsˈrʌpt jʊər plænz/: làm gián đoạn kế hoạch
In my opinion, the cheapest means of transport would probably be bicycles or walking. Both of these options cost almost nothing once you have a bike or good walking shoes. Public buses are also generally quite affordable. On the other hand, flying tends to be the most expensive, especially if you’re traveling internationally or booking last-minute. Private cars can also be costly, not just for the vehicle itself, but for fuel, insurance, and maintenance. Personally, I try to avoid using my car for long trips because the expenses can really add up.
booking last-minute /ˈbʊkɪŋ ˈlæst ˈmɪnɪt/: đặt vé vào phút chót
private cars /ˈpraɪvət kɑːrz/: ô tô cá nhân
fuel, insurance, and maintenance /fjʊəl, ɪnˈʃʊərəns, ənd ˈmeɪntənəns/: nhiên liệu, bảo hiểm, và bảo trì
Commuting during rush hours can be really frustrating. One of the biggest difficulties is, of course, traffic jams. It can take much longer to reach your destination, and that can be stressful, especially if you’re on a tight schedule. For those using public transport, overcrowding is a common issue. Buses or trains can get so packed that there’s barely room to stand, which is uncomfortable and sometimes even unsafe. Another challenge is that delays are more frequent during rush hours because of the high volume of commuters. Personally, I try to avoid rush hour when possible because it just makes the whole journey more exhausting.
tight schedule /taɪt ˈskɛdjuːl/: lịch trình chặt chẽ
overcrowding /ˌəʊvəˈkraʊdɪŋ/: sự đông đúc
barely room to stand /ˈbeərli ruːm tə stænd/: hầu như không có chỗ đứng
delays /dɪˈleɪz/: trì hoãn
high volume of commuters /haɪ ˈvɒljʊm əv kəˈmjuːtə(r)z/: số lượng người đi lại đông
